As long as humans exist, so will the werewolves. "Modern" werewolves however have a powerful tool to
arrange meetings (so called "Howlings") and make conversation: the Internet.
Thanks to the fre speech on the Internet, werewolves and were-fascinated people don't have to hide
anymore.
If you are into serious discussion, there are some excellent mailinglists on the Internet. I can recommend two of them:
WereMail ... is the most active list.
PShift ... has become very quiet in the past months.
AHWW stands for alt.horror.werewolves and is a Usenet newsgroup.
When I first encoutered AHWW back in 1996 I wondered what these guys were talking about,
did they joke when mentioning dreams, animal totems or shapeshifting? Yes and no, that's what I found out.
"The fire", as we call it, isn't just a place for werewolf stories and movies, it is a place for people who feel
specially connected to specific animals. Wolf dominates the scene, but there are many others: Fox, Cat, Bear etc...
Most of us try to "shift" into an animal state, either mentally or physically
(please visit the Shifting page for explanations on Shifting) and the ultimate goal is to
become one with that creature, to BE such a creature. This can be done in dreams or in reality. Well, dream shifting
and mental shifting is something most of us do quite often, whereas a full physical shift is probably one of the rarest
things on earth. However, many of us do believe in P-Shifting. Real P-Shifters wouldn't tell about their abilities in the
newsgroup because they'd probably get caught by the government and used for nasty experiments... That and the fact that
there are whole bunch of things humankind doesn't understand yet urges us to seek further knowledge by sharing and discussing
different views, opinions and techniques.
AHWW suffers from spammers like so many other newsgroups, and every week or so there's someone who tells us that
he knows everything about werewolves, that P-Shifting is impossible, that we're all nuts and so on... But despite these things
and the fact that many "greymuzzles" (i.e. long-time participants) left AHWW because of exactly that reason, there's always
a pack of loyal weres which keeps the spirit of AHWW. If there's one advice I can give, I ask you to respect the other's view.
You don't have to agree with him, but PLEASE refrain from insulting others because they've a different opinion.
I usually post under the name [Blackmuzzle] via email address werewolf@playspoon.com
I'm including the AHWW Mini FAQ at the end of this page.
